 CLIMATE CHANGE

The impact of climate change is not just an increase in temperatures. Plants, animals and ecosystems as well as human communities are at serious risk as a result of factors such as the increase in the frequency and impact of extreme weather events such as drought, floods, severe hurricanes, rise in ocean and sea water levels, increase in the acidity of the oceans, and the melting of glaciers. The scientific world states that the increase in average temperatures should be limited to a maximum of 2°C in order to minimize the devastating effects of climate change. In order to achieve this target, the CO2 rate in the atmosphere should not exceed 450 ppm. It is predicted that the increase in this rate will continue with current policies and practices. While the World Bank warns that the increase in average temperatures will reach 4°C in 2060 with the current rate of increase in carbon dioxide emissions, it states that the effects of this increase will be felt especially by the poor.
